- A FULL solution to Kings Quest IV
- The manual is not required for solution.
-
- Walk 4 screens East and "take worm" (2 points). Walk 2 more screens
- East and allow yourself to be carried to the castle. Do nothing
- until you are returned to the forest.
-
- Go N, W, W. Enter cottage and "clean house" (5). The dwarfs will
- return and invite you to supper. When they leave, "clean house"
- again and then "look at table". "Take pouch" of diamonds (2) from
- the table. Travel S, S and enter the mine. Go East and "give pouch
- to dwarf". He will refuse it and give you a lamp (3).

- Leave the mine and travel N, W. Cross the river and "look under
- bridge" (2). You will find a gold ball. Go one screen North to
- right side of pond. "Drop ball in pond" and the frog will retrieve
- and return it. "Take frog" and "kiss frog" (5). He will give you
- his crown. "Take ball".

- Travel E, E and enter spooky house. Go one screen West and "look at
- books". "Take Shakespeare book" (2). "Look at picture" then "look
- at wall". "Flip latch" (4). Go West through door and "take shovel"
- (2). Leave house and travel W, W, N, N. Wait for Cupid, then "take
- bow and arrow" (2).

- Go North. You will find the Unicorn here or immediately to the West
- or North-West. "Shoot unicorn with arrow" (4). Find the Minstrel
- who will be either N, N or N, N, W from the beach where you started.
- "Give book to minstrel" who will give you the lute (3) in return.

- Find Pan who will be at the back of the fisherman's house or in one
- of the screens immediately North or East. "Play lute" then "give
- lute to Pan" who will give you his flute (3).
-
- Walk West along the pier at the front of the fisherman's house. The
- fisherman will go back to his cottage. Go inside and "give diamonds
- to fisherman" (3) who will give you the fishing pole. Go to the end
- of the pier and "bait hook" (1) then "catch fish" (3). The last
- command may have to be repeated a number of times until you catch a
- fish.

- Walk off the end of the pier and swim 2 screens West to Genesta's
- island being careful to avoid the shark. Walk around the island
- until you see a peacock feather. "Take feather" (2) and then leave
- the island from the point where you arrived. Swim east. Repeat if
- necessary until swallowed by a whale.

- Move diagonally (up & right) from the bottom left of the tongue
- until you stop moving and stand up. Continue movement until you are
- near the uvula. "Tickle whale" (5) and you will be coughed out into
- the ocean. Swim North.

- "Give fish to pelican" (4), "look on ground" and "take whistle" (2).
- Go inside the prow of the wreck and "look at ground" (3) where you
- will find a golden bridle. "Blow whistle" (2) and swim to dolphin.
- "Ride dolphin" (2) and you will be returned to the mainland.
- [DON'T "talk to dolphin" or you will discover a fault in the game
- which will then terminate.]

- Go to the waterfall (one screen North of the entry to Lolotte's
- castle) and "wear crown" (5). You will turn into a frog and swim
- through the waterfall to a hidden cave. "Take board" (2), "light
- lamp" and move East into the cave.

- You will probably have to leave twice (ie. enter three times) before
- you are safe from attack by the troll. "Look around" and "take
- bone" (2). Be warned that you will have to save your game
- frequently during your passage through the cave because of the troll
- and the crevice. There are five dark screens in the cave with two
- possible paths that I managed to find. One of these is roughly as
- follows :

- The "X" is roughly where you will find or fall into the crevice. As
- you approach this point, you should use the command "put board over
- crevice" (2). This will be successful when you are close enough.

- On leaving the cave, you must stand directly in front of the first
- tuft of grass in the swamp. "Hop onto tuft" and then repeat the
- command "hop" until you are standing on the last tuft before the
- island. "Put board on tuft" (2) and walk across to island. "Play
- flute" (4) to mesmerize snake and quickly move to tree and "take
- fruit" (10). Walk back across board and "take board". "Hop" back
- to cave entrance. Trace your path back through the cave saving your
- game regularly. You will receive two (2) points for putting the
- board over the crevice again on the way back.

- Go to the unicorn and "put bridle on unicorn" (3). "Ride unicorn"
- and you will automatically go to Lolotte's castle to receive your
- next task (7).

- Go to the Ogre's cottage where you will find the door unlocked.
- Enter the cottage and "give bone to dog" (2). Go to the closet door
- and "open door" (2), then "look through keyhole". When Ogre is
- asleep, "open door" and go upstairs. "Take axe" (2) and go
- downstairs. Leave the cottage (walk through the closed door) and go
- East to the scary trees. "Chop trees" (4) which will not attack you
- thereafter, and then go back to the Ogre's house. He will be gone
- so "take hen" (4). Deliver the hen to Lolotte (7) who will give you
- your next task.

- Travel 4 screens North to the Skull Cave and enter. Avoid the witch
- on the left who will follow and try to catch you. Approach the two
- stationary witches at a point directly between them and "take eye"
- (3). Leave the cave and then re-enter it.

- "Take scarab" (2) which the witches will throw to you, and then
- "give eye to witches" (3). Leave cave and go to the spooky house.
- You will find, on leaving the Skull Cave scene, that night will fall
- (if it hasn't already) ie. it is now 9:00 PM.

- Go upstairs to the nursery where the ghost baby is crying. Go to
- the cemetery on the left side of the house and "read epitaph" on
- each grave stone until you find the baby's grave (back left).
- Please note that I haven't spelled EPITATH incorrectly in this text;
- it's a mistake in the game! "Dig" (3) and you will find a silver
- rattle. Go back to the nursery and "give rattle to baby" (2).

- The miser's ghost will then appear downstairs and you must repeat
- the grave searching process to find gold coins (3) - front left of
- cemetery on left side of house. [If you dig in any wrong place
- during the grave searches, your shovel will break,after digging five
- times, leaving you unable to reach the end of the game.] "Give
- coins to miser" (2) and go upstairs to right side bedroom where you
- will see the sad lady's ghost.

- Repeat the process at front left of cemetery on right side of house
- to find locket (3). Return and "give locket to lady" (2). Go
- downstairs to discover the lord's ghost. Repeat process at front
- right of left cemetery to find medal (3). Return and "give medal to
- lord" (2).

- Follow boy ghost upstairs and "climb ladder". "Look at ghost" and
- then repeat process at back left of right cemetery to find toy horse
- (3). Return and "give toy horse to boy" (2) who will vanish. "Open
- chest" and then "look in chest" (2). Go through secret door in
- library and up winding stairs to organ. Approach organ between
- organ and seat. "Sit" and "play sheet music" (4). "Look in drawer"
- and then "take key" (2).

- Go to crypt in right side cemetery and "unlock door" (3) then "open
- door". Move to rope and "take rope" (2). "Climb down" and "take
- box" (4). "Climb up" and return to Lollote (7).

- Wait in the bedroom until the rose is slipped under the door. "Look
- at rose" and "take key" (2). "Unlock door" (2), leave room and go
- down the stairs. Move through the door in the right wall near the
- back. "Open cupboard" on right hand side and "take all" (4). Leave
- the kitchen and exit the dining room through the near door in the
- right wall.

- Go through the eastern door and climb to the top of the stairs.
- "Unlock door" (2) and enter Lolotte's room. "Shoot Lollote with
- arrow" (8), then "take talisman" (5). Go half way down the stairs
- and through the door to the west. Open the first door you come to
- and "look around". "Take hen" (2) and "take Pandora's box" (2).
- Leave the store room and exit East. Go down the stairs and through
- the door. Exit the castle to the South.

- Enter the stable and "open gate" (4). Go back to the crypt and
- enter. "Climb down" and "drop box" (2). "Climb up" and exit the
- crypt. "Lock door" (2) and go to the pier. Swim to Genesta's
- island and enter the castle. Go upstairs and "give talisman to
- Genesta" (10).

- Genesta will magically transport you to the beach where she will
- retrieve her magic hen (2). You will then be sent back to your
- father where his life is saved by the magic fruit. Your score
- should be 230 of a possible 230 points.

- At the very end of the game, I was given the code J=:5LCOSWY. I
- believe the purpose of the code was so that proof could be given to
- Sierra of successful completion. Others who have achieved the
- maximum score report an entirely different code.
